The Olympics

OK - so I didn't catch much of the Olympics...I have my reasons...Some are sentimental (Mom was an Olympics FREAK!)...Some are time constraints...I have been super sleepy due to illness and just general malaise...However Felini would have been proud of the closing ceremony. I did catch it as I was catching up on paperwork Sunday night. I linked the photo album so give it a shot...I thought it was worth a once over..you might also...

Rob's site

Ok- so I still can't seem to get the Euro mullet pictures to download and open correctly. Rob says he's resending, but in the meantime, here's a web site you might want to bookmark to keep up with him: http://web.mac.com/rrpethel. It's linked to the title as well. You can hear his Greek teacher speak the alphabet, or view his blog which includes an entry and photo for his new haircut. Enjoy.

My friends it has been a while

but I'm finally logging onto my old friend 377southpopestreet.
This is all superficial of course. I wanted everyone to join me in congratulating our favorite nerdy doctor and his soon to be wife:

And if you feel so inclined to send them a gift, their wedding is precisely 11 days after mine - 8/23/06 and they are registered at Tiffanys. Be sure to buy them the Windham dessert spoon. I know it's $115, but they've registered for like 48 of them. They're gonna need all the help they can get making that quota. (ps. who the hell registers for 48 dessert spoons! Watch out Zach, that skinny little Mandy had nothing but big fat tubs of Ben and Jerry's on her mind! Another Brit Brit in the making!)

Chasing the Elusive Euro Mullet

My brother Rob got his first haircut in Greece. He's wanted a 'Euro mullet' for some time now. His reflections after the event are worth the sharing.. quite funny. Here's his email to me:

Big Sis,

What up. Well, I've finished another week of language here, and it coming along. I can introduce myself, tell where Im from, ask how someone is doing, count to 20, say my abc's, etc. The newness is wearing off a little, thank goodness. The only thing is Im having a hard time getting the right modem for my internet connection.

I went to get a haircut the other day, and you know that I was going for the Euro-mullet -with a silent t-. (which, by the way, about 60% of guys have here). I explained to a lady there who spoke English who told the dude cutting my hair what I wanted. By the way, there are salons (for men and women) and bakeries on just about every corner. Greeks love their pastries fresh and their hair coiffed. Anyway, the place was shwank and the guy cutting hair was so trendy he would have brought queer eye to tears of joy. He motions for me to sit, and then a little "mini-me" comes skipping out. He "preps" me for the "main event". Then the dude comes over, runs a comb through my hair and appears to be studying the form.

The lady explains what I said (trim on top, shorter on the sides, longer in the back). He runs his fingers along the sides, making a little sound effect (in lieu of language) indicating where he was going to cut. I was almost in tears holding back the laughter. He gave an incredible performance, and gave me the haircut that Ive been wanting since Innsbruck. He knew exactly what I was talking about! I feel so vindicated. He even put my sideburns into an angle as a finishing touch. After he finished, spank-boy came back in and cleaned me off and gave me gel and stuff while the "artist" (Apostolos) had a smoke. I was thinking that I may have been in over my head, and that this was going to cost 50 Euros or something. Nope, just 10. I was really impressed. Ive felt much more confident on the streets since.

Anyway, I thought Id share this story with you as you know that Ive been chasing the elusive euro-mullet for sometime now.

I hope all is well back home. I miss seeing everyone, hopefully Ill be home this fall or Christmas. Give me an update when you can.

Rob

Things just don't get any weirder.

You guys know I have a page on 43 Things. I came across some guy's page who even though he lives in London had visited almost everything in Atlanta. I decided to go to his blog to further investigate. No I'm not a stalker...well, at least that's why my lawyer said! ha ha ha!. Anyway, he's big into photography...and well, you guys know how much I love that mess. So I clicked on his flickr account to check out his work. Well well well...as the title says, I just don't think it gets any weirder than this because you guys are NEVER going to believe what he has taken pictures of...are you ready for this??? The Norcross / Dacula girls basketball game! How do things like this happen? I mean seriously, what are the odds of me coming across those pictures? So, if you would like to view these pictures yourself...feel free to click here.

funny

There is this church sign on the way to work- that always has the worst/funniest quotes. This week it reads,

"If you hide it, it ain't right."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER

If we were eating at a restaurant I promise I wouldn't tell the waitress and make you have to listen to the whole kitchen staff sing happy birthday.

But still, welcome to your 30s, I think it is bound to be a better decade! Have a great day and I'll see you later.
