Slow blog no more

Ok I'm back. These past two weeks have been nuts.. giving finals.. grading finals.. reading books.. meeting with professors.. starting Maymester. Tonight I've given myself a night on the couch with a movie I grabbed from Berry's Media Collection, it's my new free source for flicks. Not a bad collection. I have had three really vindicating events this week. The first was an email from a former student, it was great to hear how well she's doing. She was the quietest kid I've ever taught, painfully quiet. She is a sophomore in college and doing well, thinking about a history major which always warms my heart ;) The second was a visit with another former student, she's home from Charleston and doing well too. We've been in and out of touch, and now as she's 22- we ate and both ordered a beer. That might have been the best part. She is finding her way in the world, and I am so happy for her. Of course, she has had her fair share of tough decisions but she has a tender heart and a strong head. She has always reminded me a lot of myself (minus the tender heart part ;)), and to see her all grown up makes me proud. The final affirmation of this busy week was having dinner with Ayla and her little brother and sister. She was the one who I organized Cmas presents for last year, living in that horrible trailer, mom in jail. The mom is out and doing great, the kids are clean and happy. So me and Lena went to dinner with all of them. The whole thing just warmed my heart, I really almost cried. If you could have seen where they were living before, now seeing them so full of life. And Ayla is so big, I swear she's grown 6 inches since the last time I saw her. They all have a long way to go, but to see them now as opposed to last year is night and day difference. The pictures are of them, precious and sweet. Teaching does have its success stories. Ok, my couch is calling. Hope you are all well.
