Oscar nominees dubbed 'must see'

I couldn't access the actual ajc article. But this article is close on yahoo. It listed the Oscar nominated films that are must sees before the ceremony. I think I've only seen one, 'Little Miss Sunshine' which was really cute and had some funny splashes of dark humor. Still, for the blog's movie lovers, I thought I'd pass this info along. Anyone up for watching 'The Queen'? I do want to see that one. Click the linked title. Enjoy.

Ok again, this is not to read.

Just thought I'd pass along that I'm now also published on the web. See the linked title.

My cat

Here's Kitty in his playing stage... he's the sweetest, most loving cat I've ever known.

Boredom reaches new height

Stupid yes, funny too, I think so. He sounds like Cora trying to speak whale on Finding Nemo during one part. Don't worry, if you really like this guy, he has two sequels entitled "Strange Noises and Faces I Can Make Vol. II and Vol. III."

Roman Myths Are True??

Rome's Palatine Hill shows new treasures
By ARIEL DAVID, Associated Press Writer Tue Jan 23, 11:14 PM ET
ROME - Work on Rome's Palatine Hill has turned up a trove of discoveries, including what might be the underground grotto where ancient Romans believed a wolf nursed the city's legendary founders Romulus and Remus.
Archaeologists gathered Tuesday at a conference to save crumbling monuments on the Palatine discussed findings of studies on the luxurious imperial homes threatened by collapse and poor maintenance that have forced the closure of much of the hill to the public.
While funds are still scarce, authorities plan to reopen some key areas of the honeycombed hill to tourists by the end of the year, including frescoed halls in the palaces of the emperor Augustus and of his wife, Livia.
After being closed for decades, parts of the palaces will be opened for guided tours while restoration continues, officials said.
It was during the restoration of the palace of Rome's first emperor that workers taking core samples from the hill found what could be a long-lost place of worship believed by ancient Romans to be the cave where a she-wolf suckled Romulus and Remus, the abandoned twin sons of the god of war Mars.
Irene Iacopi, the archaeologist in charge of the Palatine and the nearby Roman Forum, said experts used a probe to peer into the 52-foot-deep cavity and found a vaulted space decorated with frescoes, niches and seashells. It is too early to say for sure whether the worship place known as "lupercale"_ from "lupa," Latin for wolf — has been found, but Roman texts say that it was close to Augustus' palace and that the emperor had restored it, Iacopi said.
"It was a very important symbolic place and we believe that it was well preserved," said Giovanna Tedone, an architect leading the work at the palace. Archaeologists are now looking for the grotto's entrance, she said.
Other finds to have emerged recently from the Palatine's largely unexplored palaces and temples include an ancient Roman sewer, insignia believed to have belonged to the emperor Maxentius, terra-cotta statues and an alabaster tiger striped with gray marble.
Officials said the resurfaced treasures highlight the importance of a hill so favored by the rich and powerful that its name is at the origin of the words "palace" in English, "palais" in French and "palazzo" in Italian.
Today rainwater seeps through stones, roots bore through bricks and retaining walls crack under layer after layer of construction, from the eighth-century B.C. remains of Rome's first fledgling huts to a medieval fortress and Renaissance villas.
Only a quarter of the Palatine's nearly 500 buildings are above the ground and just 40 percent of the hill's 67 acres can be visited.
The latest closure came in November 2005, when a 16th-century wall collapsed one night in a well-visited area near the emperor Tiberius' palace. No one was hurt, but the collapse prompted authorities to study the stability of the hill and its monuments.
Experts said Tuesday they are considering restoring the ancient Roman sewage system to help drain rainwater.
Each year, 4 million people buy a ticket granting access to the Palatine and the nearby Colosseum, but 90 percent of them just go to the ancient arena, said Culture Minister Francesco Rutelli. The minister said that $9 million will be available in 2007 for more restoration on collapse-prone areas such as Tiberius' palace.

weird

i've just been going through some of our really old posts and I gotta say, we used to write so much more! it could be that mep, you and i weren't talking every couple of days like we are now. nor were we emailing all the time. and let's not forget, i don't think any of us were as busy back then. anyway, just a random thought i was having.

i wish i had some really deep thoughts to share instead of such topical material, but i don't. i think i'm just too tired lately. maybe i'll go read a little harry potter. (yes i'm 10 again.)

awe...you should see my sweet little justice right now. he's laying on the floor right beside me completely passed out. man i love that little man. wanna see a picture of him? this is what he kind of looks like right now:

i love his little brown eyebrows! alright, i'll say goodnight now. i'll post again soon with some deep thoughts ... or something.

i <3 the cardigans

If you're not really up on The Cardigans, you have got to take a listen. I will be the first to admit that I absolutely despised their song, "Lovefool" back when it came out, but then a couple of years later came a phenomenal turn around follow up "My Favourite Game". If you don't remember it, check out its bizarre video I've linked up from youtube.

"i only know what i've been working for...another you so i could love you more..i really thought that i could take you there...but my experiement is not getting us anywhere. i had a vision i could turn you right..a stupid mission and a lethal fight...i should have seen it when my hope was new...my heart is black and my body is blue..."

to my luck, i randomly thought about them the other day while in a cd store. i found their latest cd "super extra gravity". sadly though, there has been another cd in between this one and Gran Turismo so now i'm searching tirelessly to find it because i absolutely refuse to buy it off itunes. (This goes back to my "the fat lady has sung" tower records post...so i won't bore you all with that...)

okay, i think i had a point to all of this. oh yes, the cardigans rock. check them out. and if you want, i'll burn copies and send them out. these guys just don't quite have a US following and i have no idea why. like i said in the title...i heart the cardigans!

Baby Fart

Megan and I just got home from Whole World. It was really funny, but then again, so is this.
I'm not sure if the child is possessed or if she just had too many beans.

scrubs pt 2

I think it's safe to say that I'm a fan of Scrubs. Okay, maybe it's more like obsessed with Scrubs...whatever...
Last night was "scrubs: The Musical" and this was one of the highlights of the show-
I hope you laugh even half as much as I did...

Remember - it's guy love between two guys...

Chasing Beaver

Isn't this commercial kind of suggestive? Nice undertones....

atlanta

since the addition of the digital camera to our family, i've become slightly obsessed. these two were taken from my car...i'll just leave it at that...the first picture is on piedmont and this is one of the many oversized towers going into the heart of buckhead. ahhh, the traffic. i can't wait.
the second is 400 south merging with 85south. i was just taken aback by the clouds that day and couldn't resist. and yes, even though i did in fact take the picture, i will remember this in my head...

Redneck Flatscreen

I wonder if this comes in high definition?

scary ass baby

I mean, c'mon. This is wrong. And this is, without a doubt, a scary ass baby. Sorry we couldn't meet up in Hotlanta last night. No Whole World Theater, it was sold out for the 10:30 show, but the day/night was fun nonetheless. Maybe soon...

Invitation

Thanks for the invite to post on this famous blog I've been checking for years now! I know how you two get when no one blogs for a while, so I'll try to keep up with the pace. :)

Well I've been busy, but I have a little time this afternoon so I thought I'd post a picture from New Year's weekend. The game is apples to apples where everybody has seven cards and they pick the one that best matches the adjective. So when the adjective 'dysfunctional' came up, this is what everyone put down. Pretty damn funny. See for yourself.

dreams do come true

especially for my dear lauren-
unbelievable?
yes, but true.

yesterday, lauren had the privilege/luck/whatever you wanna call it of
picking up two very, very special people from LAX. special to you, me,
but most importantly to lauren.
if you have a guess, now would be the time...go on...who do you think it is?

if you guessed amy and emily, not only are you right, you're
down right freaky.

basically a friend she used to work with asked her to work on a video for the last song on their new album. so lauren was incredibly fortunate in that she got to pick them up at the airport and chat with them on the 30 min car ride back to the roosevelt hotel in hollywoood where they shot the video. according to our friend, she stayed on set all day- had a blast and now they are all "new best friends".

I cannot even imagine what lauren must have been like yesterday. oh my god, the screaming, the hysterical screaming...little girl screaming!!! what i would have paid to have seen the look on her face as those two women got into her car. and lauren...i'm sure she had a million and one things to say to them...about them...although i'm sure she left out the part about her being in love with amy. now that would have been priceless!

hello hello

back from the land of dead blogs. i won't have too much that is interesting to write about, but i had to show my screen name. i'm at work, kind of, helping out with an advising session before i teach my 6:30 class here in cartersville. ahh crap, student, must advise. but hey, i'm am still breathing, and i'll blog again soon.

work

this is my view everyday. you'd never know there was a huge window with an actual view behind me, but there is. i rarely, if ever, turn around and look out said window, however, it is there. i've been thinking about hanging a mirror on the wall in front of me just so i could glance up occasionally. i actually have a tiny mirror on my computer just for that exact reason. maybe one day. ahh, my desk...lovely, isn't it? and just think, i'll be looking at this exact thing in just a few hours. exciting, isn't it?

Here's to 2007

I just read this on Yahoo.com and loved it. May it serve as a constant reminder to live well each and everyday.

Gabby's Guide to a Healthier You
Take Charge in 2007Posted by Gabrielle Reece on Mon, Dec 18, 2006, 11:47 pm PST
Here we go again, breaking out the resolutions. Maybe we should make a resolution not to make resolutions anymore, but this gives us a moment to have a call to action. That's right people, we are going to stop going through the motions right now and take action.
I'm right there with you... In so many ways, I catch myself on automatic pilot. Change? Yeah, who has the energy? I find a lot of us are just trying to get to our little finish line. The finish line we call Friday to make it to the weekend. The finish line to make it into our beds at the end of the day.
Maybe the resolution this year should be connected to taking more "charge" of our lives and how we are reacting to our day to day. Could we be more "active" and stop "reacting" to what gets thrown in front of us? After all, who can create a wish list if we can't even come up for air?
Do you wanna go for it? Is 2007 your year? I think this is as good a time as any. While it may be a little cliché, let's make a New Year's resolution. Lose weight, make more time for yourself and your family, have more fun, make more money, get to the gym, eat better, go someplace you have always wanted to visit, make up with a crazy family member. I'll be honest with you, I don't know about the money part, and I certainly am not qualified about the family member, but I do have some ideas about the food and exercise bit.
1. Write it down. Put it out there. Write down your heart's desire for change and put it into play. Really think about what kind of change is needed and possible in your life. Don't set yourself up for failure right from the get go. I mean some days I want to be "cute" and fit into a size 6, but I'm 6'3", and it's best if I keep who I am reflected in my goals. That's creating an environment for success.
2. Clean out the mind and call this a "fresh start." I don't care how many times you have failed before or how many diets you didn't succeed on... You are one day old on your resolution calendar. There is no yesterday - just the moment in which you created this new intention. You are a baby, new and shiny.
Keep your eyes on the goal. Find a way to accept that you are new and you can allow change to occur. If you reference the old you, then you won't be able to allow the new you to grow and develop. See this you and manifest it with your commitment and imagination. Get that brain right.
3. Use food as a tool to help you achieve your goals. If you have an emotional relationship with food, you are going to have to come to terms with it. Try to reach an agreement with yourself on the most productive way to handle your relationship. You don't need to break up, but you should only date or love foods that love you back and treat you right. Spend time with food that is committed to helping you reach your goals. Food that makes you healthy and energized.
I stopped loving food that was only in it for the moment - those foods that tasted good, but which I paid for with gas or fat. I'm over those foods. I find that avoiding fast food, frozen, microwave, processed, white, non-living (that means filled with ingredients I can't spell or pronounce or that can live on the shelf for 99 years) are best to avoid. Don't even give them your number. Every time you put something in your mouth, ask yourself, "What's in it for me?"
4. Don't be afraid of food. Eat when you're hungry. Listen, for any goal regarding your body food is going to be a critical component of reaching success. If you want to lose weight, have more energy, feel good, you are going to need to eat to get there. Eat living food, and watch the portions. Try eating until you are full and then stop. If you can't in the beginning then just cut every meal in half automatically. Try to eat three meals a day and a few snacks in between. If it fits into your reality, don't eat dinner too late.
5. Sweat baby. No way around it, you have to exercise. Don't kill yourself in the beginning, start slow. If you come out like gangbusters and then you're sore for a week, it's not much fun. Let's face it, this has to be a lifestyle change and if it sucks, then you will stick to it for about five days.
I suggest hooking up with a workout "buddy" who will kick you in the butt and visa versa when needed. Eventually I'm looking to sweat at least four times a week. I have said this before: book it. Schedule your time for training on the calendar. Keep it official like all other appointments. Don't make exercise a luxury item. It is not an option. Stop thinking about how much you "don't feel like it" or that "it's so boring." There is no alternative to moving your butt, so take the emotion out of it, and get it done.
6. Sleep. Nighty, night! Even though it's fun and relaxing, take your TV out of your bedroom. I love it, too, but it has to go. 2007 is all about making your goals happen and since you are going to be experiencing so many changes, you better get some rest.
I read a study from the American Medical Association stating that people who don't get enough sleep are more likely to be obese. The lack of sleep has an effect on your mental function, hormones (big one), and behavior itself. Once you drop below six hours they found people were 23 percent more likely to be obese, below five hours were 50 percent more likely to be obese, and four hours or less each night were 73 percent more likely to be obese. How much do you need your TV now? One word: Tivo. Plus if you're tired, you will not have the energy to work out and most likely you will eat more food to try and get more energy.
7. Put some inspirational quotes and pictures in a journal. Try to write down how your days are going. Good and bad. Get it off your chest. If the day was brutal and you're feeling down or overwhelmed, let it go. Try making an entry that will inspire you about other areas of your life. I have a friend who went through a really hard divorce and was bumming. She would write down five things a day she was thankful for. She told me it kept her focused on the good, but it wasn't too demanding of a task given where she was at in her life.
8. If you have a bad day or fall of the wagon don't let it derail the train. It's the human condition, so don't dwell on it. None of us are going to be perfect, so why create that expectation? If you eat at In and Out with the bun and fries, and do it sitting in front of the TV, don't guilt out to the extent that it keeps you from getting back to business.
9. Chill on the alcohol. Since we are clinking our glasses and cheering the New Year, that brings me to the booze. Lot of calories in the booze and it also creates a situation where you do "mindless eating." You know the kind where you start saying "life is short, who cares, give me that basket of chips and salsa." Just stay mindful of the circumstances, and avoid situation where you set yourself up for temptation.
Cheers to you and your family. Here is to a new adventure. May you enjoy the entire journey (even the hard parts). Now go out and get 2007, and don't wait for it to come and get you.

ugh

...i'm so bored of looking at the same 3 posts everytime i go to this page that I had to post something. thing is, I don't have anything to say. i mean, i'm sitting here with a glass of red wine thoroughly enjoying my time goofing around online. nothing interesting to report, just entertaining myself. i actually think i may watch Dirt tonight just to see if it really is as bad as the promos make it out to be. i can't say that i'll report on it, because truth is, i probably won't.

my christmas was nice as was the week following. i had a blast in charlottesville. then again, i always do. i love it there. would move there actually, but the spouse isn't too keen on that idea. can't say as i blame him. i wouldn't move to my home town either. guess that's just the way it goes sometimes.

i've been talking to an old friend recently...more than usual. it's been nice. very nice actually. sometimes i forget how much i enjoyed those times. sometimes i wish i could go back just to be a fly on the wall...just to get a taste. alas, those days are over and there is no time machine yet. probably for the best. what's funny about all of this is that i'm writing this online...what's even funnier is that no one will ever read this! ha ha. okay, maybe one person..hi friend...if you're reading this. no one posts anymore...i'm wondering if this blog should self destruct. what's the point really? no one cares about my thoughts. no one cares about what video i'm posting from you tube. i could just email myself and it would be the same...

just thinking online.

enough of this.

time to settle in for the night.

sweet dreams.
