Slacker

Ok so I admit, I've been a bit of a blog slacker, unintentional of course. I've just been busy I guess? But I'll log in with a late night good night. A Sarah favorite? Well, it is a tough choice, and she has so many great songs with deep implications, but I have to go with one of her simplier themes. I love 'Ice Cream'-- doesn't it just cut to the heart of the matter?

Congrats to Ashley passing the bar, I am jealous of melt in your mouth steak.

I recently returned from a Halloween party with old high school friends. It was definitely more of a kidfest than a drinkfest. And ps- I don't know why, but I am a kid magnet. I spent more time playing hide-and-seek with the kids than I did catching up with my old buds. But still it counts for good times. They are good people, and I do treasure their friendship.

I will have to say, that I am going to have to check out some of the Scooby Doo DVDs, because apparently they are all the rage with kids under six. And don't you know, I am still a kid at heart.

congratulations ashley!

I'll make this short and to the point. Ashley passed the bar! I am so excited for him! We celebrated tonight by going to McKendricks. (The filet will melt in your mouth...seriously.) He wanted to celebrate the exact same way we did when he found out he got into Law School. All of his hard work has paid off. When I asked him yesterday how excited he was, he responded with, "Excited? No, relieved." I guess I'd kinda feel the same way. Whatever. It's over and he can rest easy now.

So today was a highly uneventful day with the exception of dinner, of course. I cleaned the house, wrote thank you notes, a letter or two, and text messaged an old friend. MEP, please refer to my email from earlier today to figure that one out. :-) Anyway, it was nice. Lots of talk about Sarah McLachlan which is never a bad thing. So we got into a discussion of our favorite Sarah song - of all of them. Can you name your favorite??? That's almost like naming your favorite Ani song...Indigo Girls song....It's tough. Anyway, no Halloween party tonight. Ashley and I had a chance to go to the same one we went to last year. Did I ever tell you what, oops, I mean who we went as? Brace yourself. Joe and Jessica Simpson. Talk about being difficult for me. I'll just leave it at that. Anyway, I love Halloween but have never been clever enough to plan out some amazing costume. I watched a few episodes of Roseanne tonight. (Hey, I'm from Alabama. Cut me some slack.) Oxygen was airing the Roseanne Halloween marathon. That show was bloody brilliant! My favorite costume was Dan Conner dressed up as Marie Antoinette. The beheaded Marie Antoinette. Dan was the body, while Jackie, (roseanne's sis) was the head. Dan had the head tucked under his arm. Ahh, fantastic! Wait, I'm going to try to find a picture of that...alright, nevermind. No such luck.

The 6th Sense is on now. I really love watching it again knowing the ending. It absolutely changes the whole experience for you. Alright, I'm going to say goodnight. Sweet dreams.

a season wasted

I hate to be rude, but I just wasted an entire season of Project Runway to find out the Jeffrey Sebelia was the winner. Come on Nina. Are you freaking kidding me? Hello?? Have you ever heard of a thing called taste, style, class? Clearly not. I seem to remember that outfit you wore a few episodes ago and well, although you're completely fabulously skinny, you are a bit too old to be sporting a heel and Bermuda short combo. Besides, you looked stupid. Whatever. I'm annoyed to say the least. I'm not saying Michael Knight had the best showing, but the guy's ability to create, sew, hem, etc..is pretty much flawless.

<<---- This is hot. Okay, so the guy didn't win. Fine, I can live with that because honestly, the kid has one helluva career ahead of him. But to say that he lost to Jeffrey is an insult. I mean the tattooed wonder designed this gem--->>

A I bitter, never. Disappointed, always.

And just for good measure, here are some other designs by the other two finalists:
this fabulous design is by Laura
Bennett..

And this cool as hell design is by ULI! PS. I would wear this outfit tomorrow!

Well, Season 3 is officially over...fashion withdrawal will commence.

Finale ! ! ! !

Oh my goodness!!! T-minus 24 hours until the Season Finale of Project Runway...and yes, I am sitting on pins and needles!!!

I'm hoping with all hope that Michael Knight (from Atlanta) takes it all, but as it stands, his final collection might not make the cut. (No pun intended.) If Jeffrey wins, I will cry. Yes, I will be glued to the set. Expect a full report at 1101p tomorrow night.

Good luck Michael!!!

will they ever be found?

It goes without saying that I have been an avid fan of Lost since it's premiere.
I have fought the naysayers, the bad press, even all of the obnoxious comments
from my friends regarding the plot of the show. I have stood by it now for two years.
However, with the second episode of the third season, I am now starting to
question my own feelings towards the show. Are the writers just writing
themselves in circles? Is there actually a point to any of this? Or have
they completely run out of ideas? I truly do not know. What I do know is
that I am finally annoyed. Nothing makes sense. They can't answer a single question.
Nope, instead they just make you ask more questions. Come on. Give
me something here. I'm dying!!
Tonight's episode is stupid. I don't care about all of "the others". Really, I don't.
Let's get back to the real story here guys. Like I said, how about trying to
answer some questions before creating a zillion more.

- - the fat lady has sung - -

I don't think I could be any sadder. Tower Records is officially closing. I know in the grand scheme of life it's nothing earth shattering. After all, it's only a record store. Or is it? Tower Records has introduced me to some great artists over the years. I guess you could say I've had a bit of a love affair with that place...the concrete floors, the underage punk kids judging me as I buy some lame cd, and the vast sea of all things music. It's not just a place to drop a fast twenty, but a place to discover artists old and new. But with the great internet taking over the world, the record stores of the past are becoming obsolete and I will be resigned to use nothing but the dreaded I-tunes to find all of my music. I will fight it though. It just won't be the same. That feeling you get of purchasing a much anticipated album...tearing the wrapping off...and going straight to your car to put that new cd right in the player. Nope. Those days are almost gone....and now I'm blue. I'll miss you sweet friend. This has been one incredible love affair that I will never forget.

The founder of Tower Records sent an email to his employees. The email said simply... "The fat lady has sung. ... She was off-key. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You."

Where are they now?

This is too funny. I totally watched this Real World, back when it was still the hot show. Ruthie was CRAZY, and now this is her only way to work her post-fame. I thought about asking her if she wanted to go out for a beer after her talk.

Bedtime Story

So the last 24 hrs. have been great, strange, dumbfounding, and just damn funny. It all started last night with the birth of my new nephew Will.

The old gang was there.

He make look like an alien now, but with his parents' good looks he is sure to be the apple of my eye.

So after a sleepless night, I headed to an IG show with KT. I was excited. She was going to her second show in as many days with high hopes of a new set list. When we arrived, we staked out a pole, since we had no option but general admission. We figured it would be good as a leaning post, but also for dancing options.

The show started, and the first two songs were the same as the night before.

And of course, the good times rolled.

Unfortunately there is always the fear, at the Tabernacle, that the building is going to cave at any moment.

And also, the downside of standing only general admission is tall people. Especially when you are 5 ft. 2 with my shoes on. I started humming the tune, 'they might be giants.'

Oh no, I'm not talking about normal guys with normal heights. I'm talking about this.

Seriously, he was at least nine feet tall, and he kept moving in front of me. When the Indigo Girls finished a song, I was in fear of my life, his elbows waving dangerously close to my forehead. Then, as a stroke of luck, he went to get his wife a beer. It was then that a nice young group of homo-bi-tri-sexuals moved in, not knowing that the jolly green would return. Everything was fine until Paul Bunyan showed up with new brewskies for he and his wife.

Since the new group had moved into his space, not knowing the shoes they were filling, he returned to reclaim his throne as the tallest guy ever. But this group of confident young women were not backing down. They tapped him on the shoulder as asked him to move. They said, 'but we can't see,' to which he replied, 'oh well.' I was sure a fight would break out, and these tough but tiny lesbos would lose no question. Luckily, Andre the Giant and his wife heard 'Get out the map' and left. We all breathed a sigh of relief, and I no longer worried of head trauma. And we partied like rock stars.

Meanwhile, it was becoming painfully clear, that the IGs were not varying from their previous set list. Katie, began prepping me for the next song. And she was right everytime. Thank God, we still had Amy Ray.

But by this time, Katie had broken into a sporadic conversation with our young friends. They were nice, well there was a mini-me who was quite a bitch, but overall they were nice. Still, we couldn't figure out who was with who? They all kept up a solid performance of light grinding. You know, whatever. I have no qualms, but excess PDA is never necessary. They were recently graduated college kids, but good lord, don't get drunk and make us watch (begging the pardon of all of our college viewers). I am quite sure I never acted like that, but Katie and I did agree, that we might not have been much different at their age. Thank goodness we are just as cool now as then. Besides, either of us could dance them off a dance floor. Perhaps what kept me chuckling instead of throwing a punch was the outfit one was wearing. Quite a tankini, I'm still trying to figure out how anyone would put it on, look in the mirror, and think, 'damn I look good.'

At this point, we realize that there is very little variation from the set list from Thursday, and unfortunately the variation was to play Chickenman. C'mon is that the best song you can do as a substitute? Lady just wanted a crack at the guitar, she would have set Amy and Emily straight (well not literally of course).

You know, good songs are good songs, but some should just be retired. 'Closer to Fine' is one of those songs. Hang up a banner, make a speech, but for the love of mike, do I really have to hear it again? Thus, my reaction.. nobody even cares who Rasputin is or that you can drink from a fountain.

And then our sweet young lesbian friends, well Katie's new friends, show us both that just because the theater is smoke-free you don't have to cut out all nictotine. No, I kid you not, we realize that they are all dipping. Don't let the angle fool you, she has in a dip.

And don't let the 'bud light' logo fool you. This is a bonafied spit cup.

Meanwhile, Joseph is loving some of his little Will aka "push up pop." Doesn't he look like everyone's favortie summertime snack, the orange sherbert push up pop? I love him already.

So even though the IGs continue to underwhelm us with repeats from the night before, we continued to enjoy the night. Until the mini-me bitch (with the other nice dippers) tried to invade Katie's space. It was if she sensed that Katie could, if she wanted, take any of her friends home. And so she grinded precariously close to Katie, making sure we realized that this was her turf. Mini-me bitch on the left, Katie's personal space violated on the right.

And so our night of fluffs and flows ended. We directed them to another bar for a post-concert grind-off. Good thing we didn't show up to their post-party, they never could have hung with us- the dance-masters of cool. We may be older, but we still have our swagger. And thank God we still have our pole.

The last 24? I wouldn't trade it for the world. And for tonight, this bed-time story is ready for bed.

i'm feelin' good

oh yeah. it's a tuesday night and i have had a little too much wine. ahh, what a perfect way to end a shite day. that's shite...not shiite. yeah, that's right. i deserved it after all the crap i dealt with today....which leads me to a thought. how are there so many DUMB people roaming our planet? are they actually aliens? i mean humans can't be that stupid, right? there must be a logical explanation for it, after all. anyway, i'm off track here. the point is, work sucked today. actually, work itself did not suck, it was just a small, minute, hiccup of a detail that sucked today. somehow it managed to ruin my day. i cannot disclose further details over this blog, however, let's just refer back to my original statement regarding dumb people roaming our planet. think about it, won't you?
