computers

I'm really just having one of those days where computers hate me. Don't know why. They just do. My computer at work felt the need to correct my words mid sentence. Not just a typo thing...oh no...every word I typed turned into the word "Sunday". Why you ask? Because my computer at work is possessed. And now, I've been spending the last 20 minutes trying to get my piece of shit wedding website to work. Oh, but that has failed me too. Did I mention that our registries somehow no longer exist on that website either? Pretty amazing huh? And Bloomingdales thinks that I've registered on their site, but alas! I have not. They have now emailed me multiple times, sent two letters - via mail- and have called. Please tell me how they have my email address AND my home phone number??? If my computer wasn't so heavy, I would have launched it out of the window by now.

And yes, I have anger management issues. Thanks for your concern.

PS. I googled the phrase "outraged face" and this is one of the images that showed up.
How funny is that? Okay, I suddenly feel better. ; )

A walk down memory lane

So Ashley's best friend is getting married June 10th to a girl from Barcelona. Thing is, they are actually getting married IN BARCELONA at a 13th century Gothic architecture church. Their reception is at a beautiful little hotel on none other than the Paseo de Gracia. For those of you who don't know that street it's one of the nicest streets in all of Barcelona. A very ritzy district. Anyway, it got me thinking a)that I'm not going to the wedding because flights to Barcelona are about $1500 a piece and b)that Heather and I were very lucky study abroad students who got to stay on that very same road. I have to take this stroll down memory lane...

and believe it or not, our friends had this same balcony. Right across the street from one of Gaudi's fabulous designed buildings!

Cut and Paste

Today I took my kids to a seminar to learn new trends in publishing. I have to say that in a different life I might have liked to work in publishing. I find it interesting. One of the neater things we saw were layouts from magazines I had never heard of...Paste was one I would recommend everyone check out. It has nice layouts - messy, but they work. That is besides the point. Each issue has a CD or DVD with it. That more than covers the cost of each issue. It sounds interesting for that reason alone.

On a funnier and rather curious note the guest speaker named Jen - who is young and was referred to as a national expert...she got kind of irritating to listen to after three hours...why? Well she had two quirky things she said over and over again. Catch phrases are something that I find myself using and I hate them - I try and make myself stop using them because I loathe them. I am trying to remove them from my vernacular all together. This girl used them as staples for description and main themes of thought and reason. I don't know if my students caught on, but it was highly comical.

So what are the quirky sayings? Well yum and huge of course. Yep those are the two words she couldn't live without...so let me give you some context.
  • "Kids I have only one thing to say about that double page spread...Yum."
  • "Using one font with multiple faces is Huuuge!"
  • "Writing sub-headers that are longer than most paragraphs is Huuuge!"
  • "Slanted Font...Yum!"
  • "Look at that kerning...can you believe it! - That is another HUGE trend! Yum kids. Yum, Yum, Yum."
  • "Typeography Pictures are Huuuge, Yum!"

I couldn't keep count, but it went on for a while. If I had had another adult with me I would have probably drawn attention to myself since I was smiling at her because of how silly she sounded.

So to recap - Paste is a good magazine that has nice layouts that you will find Yummy that shows new trends in layouts that are huge and therefore you should check it out.

Three little words

We have termites...yes - I was walking Saralyn to her car yesterday after she brought us some lunch since we have been little worker bees around the house and she said "Heather I think that those are termites in your garage!" I could have shit! Anyhow I promptly ripped the phone out of Travis hand or something like that called the exterminator and now to a justified amount will have no more termites some time this week. Ahhh....home ownership. I had forgotten about all of this in my excitement over building a new house. In case you hadn't ever seen one...like me...or if it has been a while I thought I would share a picture with you. THEY ARE DISGUSTING! I was going to hang out with Leigh Ann but in the midst of the crisis no fun for me, just work, work, work. OH - on a much much lighter note...I think that FRIDAY NIGHT IS LOOKING GOOD FOR DINNER...(I am using bold and color for emphasis) Please RSVP to heather_young@bellsouth.net and we will meet in a central location. Also a bike riding trip in Rome soon is also called for since I need the fresh air and exercise...I second Leigh Ann's motion in her last post.

My New Boy Friend

Boy I am glad to be home...that is the craziest place I have ever been...like Disney World on crank. Anyhow we had fun although I don't think that Travis slept the entire time we were gone so that made me tired. Anyhow the Belaggio was breathtaking. We gambled, we ate, we walked, we looked around...most importantly we looked like tourists. The best thing we did was see my beloved Blue Man Group...sort of an homage to my dear Daddy...he and I shared this love. I thought that it would be good, but it was GREAT! I didn't want it to end although I don't think that my hearing could have taken it. I haven't felt that alive in a long time...all my senses working and the sounds and dancing around and not caring and everyone smiling...it was unlike anything I have ever done and I would do it over and over and over again. It was INCReDIbLE! As we were walking out my sweet husband got my attention which was hard because I was acting like I was high...he said look - there one of them was and he stopped and I got this picture. I love it because as you can see in my stupor...I have the same expression and my new boyfriend...I really was happy don't mind the look on my face. If they ever come to Atlanta we are all going to have to go.

mark your calendars

Sorry Leigh Ann, it's no trip to Italy, but if you girls are available, (heck, even if you're not) you're getting an invitation to a luncheon/shower/whatever the hell it is in the glorious city of Tuscaloosa. I know. Please try to contain your excitement. The date is June 10th and Senora Slattery is going to book some hotel rooms for us. Isn't that cute? I'm not sure if it would be Friday and Saturday night (I know...giving up a weekend for me! yeah!), but Lyn's footing the bill for this one. Cool, huh? It's gonna be as spectacular as this photo -

My Sweet Scout

I know that for the most part the blog stays chipper and carefree. But I wanted to let you all know that today marks a year since the parting of my sweet Scout. I still miss her all the time and think of her everyday. Here is perhaps my favorite pic with she and I. She was one of a kind, and I will always love her as such.
